Is your copy of Master Detective a potential
collector's item?
Maybe. Here's the story:
The
first printed versions of Master Detective contained a misspelling on the
cover. On the spine, the word "Detective" in the title was spelled
"Dectective". To correct the error, Kensington Publishing, the company that owns
Citadel Press, recalled all these early versions and replaced them with
corrected copies.
So does that make it a collector's item? Well, it's a good bet that there are
people who do collect such things, and thanks to quick action by the publisher,
the supply is limited, so why not? After all, errors in stamps are eagerly
sought by collectors. Anyway, it makes for a good story, and what's a book
without a good story?
